Banana nut bread

Ingredients:
225g (8oz) SR flour
¼ teaspoon salt
50g (2 oz) margarine or butter
50g (2 oz) castor sugar
50g (20z) walnuts, chopped
2 bananas, mashed
75g (3 oz) golden syrup
1 egg

Method:
Grease a large loaf tin (1 kg / 2 lb).
Sift flour and slat into a bowl, rub in margarine until mixture resembles breadcrumbs, then add the castor sugar and chopped nuts. Mash the bananas with the golden syrup, and then beat in the egg. Stir the banana mixture into the dry ingredients and mix well together. Place mixture into the prepared loaf tin and bake in moderate oven (180 °C/ 350 °F, Gas 4) for about 1 hour. Cool in tin and turn out when cool. Slice and serve with butter.
